Adventures in DIY land, again.
I am on Pinterest all the time. I saw two quotes that I loved for my girls. The first one fits my peanut girl perfectly “Some girls are just born with glitter in their veins” and the second one is my crazy girl to a T “I live in my own little world, but it’s ok they know me here”.
After seeing these quotes the wheels were spinning in my head. I decided I wanted to get a picture of each of them with their quote and put it on their wall in their room. So I made the pictures and blew them up to a 16X24 size backed on a mount board so the print would be able to stand up on its own.
Then I got to thinking about how I wanted to hang them. My girls’ walls are very pink and I wanted to break up the pink a bit. So I came up with the idea of a painted frame on the wall that I can switch out the pictures when we get tired of these. I love the look of ornate wood frames, so I decided to do that.
Here are my steps on how I made these frames.
Starting with the images I chose and quote for each of my girls.
So to make my frame, I taped 4 sheets of tissue paper together larger than my pictures. Then I folded them in half and in half again. because the prints are 16X24 I measured from the folded side 8 inches and marked it with a straight line then from the bottom folded edge I marked a line at 12inches.
I found an example of a frame and copied its shape. Then I cut it out.
The next step was to place it on the wall. I used a level and marked a line on the wall where I wanted the frame to be. Then I used push pins to hold the frame in place and I traced around the frame. I then by hand I carefully painted in the frame shape. It took a couple of coats to get it to look how I want it. I can imagine this won't be fun to cover up some day. But I will worry about that, when the time comes.
I decided to use mirror clips to hang my pictures. Because they were printed on a foam board it worked perfectly. And when we are bored with these I can very easily switch them out again.
The girls love their special pictures. I love how they broke up all that pink! I am thinking about painting the word sisters or something above the horizontal frame. But it will take me awhile to think about it. I don't jump into projects like this until I have a complete plan in my head. That's how visual people like me work.
